Do you know how many patients are on your list that are actually homeless? And did you know that by the expression “homeless” we don’t just mean those who are living on the streets. So, you are probably going to have a lot more than you think.
Homelessness prevents our patients from being able to look after their health conditions. It also leads to Health Inequalities. So, what can General Practice do to improve the health of our homeless patients?
I will be co-delivering this training session with CRISIS, the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We will also be joined by people with lived experience of homelessness who will share their impactful stories.
Learning Outcomes:
- To improve your understanding of the different types of homelessness and to consider the underlying causes
- Outline the severe medical inequalities faced by people experiencing homelessness
- Describe the barriers faced by homeless people when accessing medical care
- Clarify the law regarding registration with a GP
- Improve understanding of the importance of a non-judgemental and empathic approach
- Consider ways to address homeless health inequality in your daily practice
