Meet the Speakers
Dr Steve Holmes

Steve has worked as a GP principal since 1989, initially on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border and since 2002, at The Park Medical Practice in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

He has a long-standing association with the Primary Care Respiratory Society, the British Thoracic Society and the Royal College of General Practitioners, as well as the International Primary Care Respiratory Society and Asthma and Lung UK.

Steve has been involved in medical education in a variety of guises, often at a national or regional level since 1991. He has been involved in a wide range of respiratory educational initiatives for generalists and specialists, both medical and nursing and has been involved in research work with more than eight universities.

He has taught nationally on quality improvement methods, leadership skills and communication skills training, for more than 20 years as well as his respiratory work.

He has published more than 300 articles, is a reviewer for more than 10 active peer reviewed journals and has had the opportunity to work at a global level.

Throughout this, he remains a clinician; passionate about the values of good primary care, continually developing the quality of clinical care, and providing holistic care for patients and their families from cradle to grave.

He is married with two adult inspirational daughters and a wife who inspired them. He manages to get time to enjoy family holidays, walking and running (up to half marathon distance), watching rugby when the opportunity allows and playing the guitar or piano badly!

What our delegates say

Delegate from Leeds: Practical tips- speaker has good understanding of issues and dilemmas faced by the non specialist in primary care Dr Steve Holmes - Respiratory
Delegate from Southampton: Very relevant to my practice as a GP, with scope to ask questions in a supportive environment. Less focus on more obscure conditions that I would be less likely to see in practice. Also the presentation was evidence based, and with studies highlighted to support any arguments. Dr Steve Holmes - Respiratory
Delegate from Webinar: It was an excellent presentation of very common problems-a very useful revision guide with up-to-date advice about treatment Dr Steve Holmes - Respiratory
Delegate from Southampton: Really nice style of presentation making the information relevant to everyday practice and answering questions which confuse most of us in our everyday practice! Good advice on inhaler choice and interesting update on vaping. Dr Steve Holmes - Respiratory
Delegate from Webinar: Dr Holmes has this brilliant way of itching the content at just the right level, without being too complicated, or too basic either. It was a fantastic presentation and I learned a lot. His presentation style is friendly and incredibly informative. Dr Steve Holmes - Respiratory
